  • Primary CTA wording: “Book a call” vs “Get a fixed price quote” can change lead quality and volume. The benefit is better fit enquiries, the technical why is intent matching. Different CTAs attract different mindsets, so you’re shaping the funnel, not just chasing clicks.

  • Form structure: Short forms often lift completions, but longer forms can improve sales efficiency. The benefit is cleaner lead handling, the technical why is better qualification. Test fewer fields versus smarter fields. A solid compromise is progressive disclosure, ask the minimum, then qualify after submission.

  • Proof placement: Testimonials near the top versus near the CTA. The benefit is lower perceived risk at the decision point, the technical why is timing, proof works best when it shows up exactly where doubt shows up.

High leverage tests for eCommerce

In eCommerce, the “what to test” is usually less philosophical. The benefit is fewer abandoned carts, the technical why is reduced friction and faster product decisions.

Test messaging before you test layout

Pick a single hypothesis tied to a single user objection. Then test one mechanism that addresses it.
